Herbert V. Hovis

Herbert V. Hovis, 89, of Clintonville passed away Friday. He had spent an extended time in Trinity Living Center in Grove City before his passing.

Born Nov. 29, 1928, in Clintonville, he was the son of Curtis D. Hovis and Cora Faye Martin Hovis.

He attended Harmony Grove Elementary School in Clinton Township and he graduated from the Clintonville High School.

After graduation, Herbert enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served for four years during the Korean conflict. After his time in the military, Herb attended the Erie Trade School.

Herbert married Mary Alice McCowin Hovis in 1955. He was a devoted husband of 59 years of marriage. Together, they had three sons, Donald, Ronald and Larry.

For over 50 years, Herb was self-employed in the Emlenton area, specializing in truck and commercial equipment.

Surviving are his sons, Donald (Shirley) Hovis and Ronald (Beverly) Hovis; and his grandchildren, Courtney, Cameron, Kristy and Lori. Also surviving are his brother, Clifford (Judy) Hovis; his sister, Ann (Pat) Redfoot; and his sister-in-law, Genevieve Hovis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice, who passed away in 2014; his beloved son, Larry Hovis, who passed in 1989; three sisters, Opal Sexton, Verla Gill and Betty Snyder; and three brothers, William Jack Hovis, Pershing Hovis and David Hovis.

HOVIS — The family of Herbert V. Hovis, who died Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville.
