Charles W. O'Donnell

Charles W. O'Donnell, 86, passed away Nov. 18 in Schertz, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Albuquerque, N.M.

He was born March 26, 1931, in Pittsburgh to Lathan and Virginia (Schmidt) O'Donnell, and was raised and lived in Butler. He married Shirley May Moore on Sept. 13, 1955, in Cumberland, Md.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1955.

He received his bachelor's degree from Grove City College in 1961. In 1964, while studying for a master's degree from Duquesne University, he moved his family to Albuquerque, N.M. He spent his career as a banker, investor, contractor and real estate broker and developer.

Charles “Chuck” “Dad” devoted his life to his wife and family. He adored his grandchildren. He relished his time with them traveling the country and fishing. He also loved being a great-grandfather.

Surviving are his son, Charles W. O'Donnell Jr. and his wife, Shirley Jay, of Schertz, Texas; his five grandchildren, Charles III (Barbara) of Denver, Colo., Gerald (Erin) of Las Cruces, N.M., Kevin (Krystle) of Schertz, Texas, Justin of Schertz, Texas, and Amy of Campbell, Calif.; his nine great-grandchildren, Caroline, Caitlin, Charles IV, Christopher, Davina, Emily, Sophie, Keagan and Kinsley; sister, Marlene Gilliland (Gary) of Chicora; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley May O'Donnell who died in February 2008; his son, Kevin Douglas O'Donnell who died in May 1980; and his brothers, Harry and Eugene.

O'DONNELL — Funeral services for Charles W. O'Donnell, who died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at French Funerals in Albuquerque.
