Mars School Board approved the 2018-19 school calendar on Tuesday, though members are looking even further in the future in an effort to address days missed due to bad weather.

During Tuesday's regular meeting the board unanimously approved the calendar for the next school year. Wes Shipley, superintendent, said there are no major changes to the calendar from the current year, with 180 instructional days and nine in-service days. Classes will begin Aug. 29, and Thanksgiving break is set Nov. 22 through Nov. 26.

Other highlights include a winter break starting with a two-hour early dismissal on Dec. 21 and continuing through Jan. 1. Spring break will be April 19 through April 22.

Mars High School's senior prom is scheduled for May 10, and the Class of 2019 graduation ceremony will take place June 6.

The last day of school will be May 31 if no additional days are needed to account for weather cancellations. Snow days would be made up on June 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, with the board deciding earlier in the spring how many are needed.
