Jacob Martin-Rivers
City police called to Terrace Apartments

A BB gun, drugs and syringes were seized Thursday evening during a domestic dispute that left a woman injured outside a Butler apartment building.

City police arrested Jacob A. Martin-Rivers, 21, who has no known address, and his girlfriend, Maxine J. Jacobson, 21, of Butler.

Police said they were called about 5:40 p.m. to the Terrace Apartments on South Cliff Street for reports of a man hitting a woman behind the apartment building and a woman crying.

Officers got there and found the couple arguing with one another, according to court documents. Jacobson began to walk away from police who tried to talk to her.

A witness advised officers that she had a gun, documents said. Jacobson struggled with police as they detained her. They found her with a BB pistol.

Police said they spoke to other witnesses who recounted seeing Martin-Rivers a short time earlier hit Jacobson and throw her into a bench in front of the building.

The woman, police said, appeared to have injuries to her left hand and right knee.

A search of Martin-Rivers, documents said, turned up two syringes and a spoon, a container with suspected marijuana resin in it and a Suboxone strip.

Suboxone is a narcotic-based drug prescribed to treat addiction to heroin and powerful painkillers such as oxycodone. Police said Martin-Rivers did not have a prescription for the drug.He was arraigned on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and harassment. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $30,000 bail following arraignment.Jacobson was arraigned on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, and given a recognizance bond. But she was kept at the jail to undergo a mental evaluation.
