ADAMS TWP — A township man and his mother are facing charges after they allegedly left the scene of a fiery crash in September and failed to get medical help for a family member police say was seriously injured in the accident.

Brent Henry, 44, of Valencia and Deborah Henry, 62, face multiple charges after the incident, which was handled by the Adams Township Police Department.

According to a criminal complaint, officers and emergency crews responded Sept. 19 to a report of an accident and vehicle fire on West Road near Three Degree Road. They arrived to find the vehicle, a 2004 Jeep, engulfed in flames. Police determined the vehicle, which was found to be empty after the fire was extinguished, had been traveling south on West Road before going off the road and hitting a tree.

Investigators found a vehicle registration beneath the Jeep, police said. That document led them to a home on the 100 block of Deer Spring Lane, where they found a man identified as Benjamin Perry with “severe” injuries including facial fractures, rib fractures, a concussion and a back injury.

Police said they found Perry laying on the floor near the home’s door, covered in a white sheet. He was subsequently taken to Allegheny General Hospital, according to court documents.

Police said they also found Deborah Henry at the home. She had fresh blood on her clothes, police said, and initially told investigators that the Jeep had been stolen before admitting to witnessing the crash and telling police that Perry had been a passenger in the vehicle.

She also told officers Brent Henry, who is her and Perry’s son, had been driving when the accident occurred. She said she was driving in a vehicle behind them and witnessed the Jeep go off the road and strike the tree, and then begin popping and smoking. She and Brent Henry, along with his girlfriend, pulled Perry from the vehicle and left the scene.

Police said Brent Henry went to Butler Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the accident, but did not take Perry with him. Additionally, police said, Deborah Henry did not contact 911 or other emergency crews for what the complaint calls “obvious injuries.”

Brent Henry is charged with causing an accident involving death or injury while not licensed, an accident causing serious bodily injury or death, causing risk or catastrophe, recklessly endangering another person, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, reckless driving and careless driving causing serious bodily injury.

Deborah Henry is charged with accident causing serious bodily injury or death, obstructing administration of the law or other governmental functions and recklessly endangering another person. No court dates have been set.
