HARMONY — The Harmony Fire District and Harmony EMS recently received grants of $26,729 and $7,037 respectively from a program administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the state Fire Commissioner’s office.

The grants may be used for construction or renovation of a unit’s station, equipment purchase or repair, training or, as is the case for each of these organizations, debt reduction.

“We applied for it for debt reduction. Pay for some bills,” said Fire Chief Scott Garing. “It’s a great asset to have. We actually get more money being a merged organization.”

The Harmony EMS will also be using the money to pay off some debt.

“It’s appreciated and needed, and a lot of other grants have gone away,” said Jay Grinnell, Harmony EMS director.
