PITTSBURGH — National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Kennedy said Butler County needs to brace for a mixed bag of weather on Wednesday that will affect those bundling up and heading out to work.

“The morning commute is going to be messy,” Kennedy said on Tuesday afternoon.

In response to the coming storm, the Butler, Seneca Valley, Moniteau and Slippery Rock school districts announced late Tuesday afternoon a two-hour delay to the start of classes Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory at 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday that is in effect until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Kennedy said because Butler is right on the line between all snow and snow plus freezing rain and sleet, it was difficult to predict what exactly will plague the county on Wednesday.

He predicted that snow will begin to fall after midnight and commuters will wake up to a few inches of the white stuff.

After 9 a.m., the southern portion of the county could begin to see a changeover to sleet and freezing rain, Kennedy said, before the precipitation returns to snow.
