Meinert leaves behind a legacy

Boy Scout Troop 404 in Cranberry Township is saying goodbye to its scoutmaster, Jim Meinert.

Boy Scout Troop 404 in Cranberry Township is saying goodbye to its longtime scoutmaster Jim Meinert.

A lifelong scouter, Meinert joined Troop 404 in 1999 and became scoutmaster in 2003. During his tenure, 35 scouts earned their Eagle rank, including his sons, Michael and Anthony.

Meinert was recently awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for his dedication to the scouting program.

Meinert and his wife, Terrie, plan to remain active in the troop, with Terrie serving as a committee member and membership coordinator and Meinert serving as one of the assistant scoutmasters. Both said they plan to fill Meinert's free time with activities that do not involve a tent or cooking out of a Dutch oven.

In his place, Troop 404 will welcome its new scoutmaster, Jayme Meredith. Meredith brings a love for the outdoors and a great deal of scouting experience to the troop, having been involved in scouting in his youth achieving Eagle Scout, OA Vigil Honor.
