SRU stays hot on hardwood

Win at California sets up showdown with rival IUP

Slippery Rock University put together a 13-0 run late in the first half Saturday and went on to pull away for an 86-65 PSAC West men’s basketball victory Saturday at California, Pa.

SRU improved to 17-4 overall, 11-4 in the PSAC, leading up to a rematch with PSAC West leader Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday night at Morrow Field House. The Crimson Hawks are 12-2 in PSAC action.

Micah Till had 27 points and nine rebounds in the game to pace The Rock. Brandon Simmons added 14 points, Richard Bivens 12 points and six rebounds.

Jashmere Howze led California (9-12, 5-10) with 21 points.

California 61, SRU (women) 41 — SRU shot just 25.5 percent from the floor, sinking 14 of 55 shots against the 14th-ranked Vulcans (18-3, 13-2).

Sierra Fordham paced The Rock (10-10, 8-7) with 11 points. Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson had eight points and six rebounds. SRU was plagued by 22 turnovers.

Shatara Parsons led the Vulcans with 25 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

SRU hosts No. 6 Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday night.

Butler County Community College 74, CCAC Allegheny 71 — Brendan Record scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds Saturday for the Pioneers (3-18, 2-3).

Joel Stutz added 21 points and eight rebounds, Jace Stutz 14 points and eight boards.

Women’s Track and Field

Butler graduate Emily Horstman won the 200 meters in 25.9 seconds and placed second in the 60 meters at 7.82 seconds in an indoor meet at Edinboro.

Horstman had one of 22 PSAC qualifying times for SRU.
