Richard Donald “Rick” Schnur

Richard Donald “Rick” Schnur

Richard Donald “Rick” Schnur, passed away peacefully at his home Dec. 9 in the arms of his loving wife.

He was born Jan. 30, 1953, to Richard J. Schnur and Patricia A. Risdon in Butler.

His childhood was filled with love of many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

“GO STEELERS.”

He was called to duty in November 1971 and he proudly served the U.S. Navy on the USS O'Callahan, in which he was honorably discharged with a bronze star.

Rick drove semi trucks for over 30 years, starting with his dad being an owner and operator. He loved driving and enjoyed the freedom of the open road, whether seeing a full moon at night or driving through a snow storm.

He then went to work in 1995 for SLCC as a boiler room technician until his injury in 2002.

He met the love of his life, Gayleen Campbell, and they married Sept. 26, 1981. Their marriage was full of love, strength and commitment for each other. They shared the joy of golfing and gardening. Growing his tomatoes and watching his wife bottle them, he would say “grown by Rick processed by Gayleen.”

He loved his beautiful home, being surrounded by flowers and taking care of them.

Golf was his passion. He was an amazing golfer and a teacher of the game.

He was disabled from an ATV accident over 15 years ago, which left him a quadriplegic. Through the trails program at the U of U, he was able to continue his love of water, snow skiing and golf. He worked out at Neuroworx after his injury to maintain his ability to drive and live a full life.

He is survived by his wife, Gayleen; sisters, Dottie (Joe) Johnston and Pattie (Charlie) DeNunzio; mother in-law, Colleen Ballegooie; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Jennifer) Campbell, Reed (Shelly) Campbell; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard, and his mother, Patricia Schnur; his brother, Stephen L. Schnur; his father-in-law, Gayle J. Campbell; his brother-in-law, Craig L. Campbell; and his stepfather-in-law, Jim Ballegooie.
