Avanel L. Eakin Hennon

Avanel L. Eakin Hennon

Avanel L. Eakin Hennon, 89, of Grove City went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday. She is now with the love her life, her husband, Donald, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.

Together they raised nine children. Avanel devoted her life to God, family, church and community.

A 1946 graduate of Grove City High School, she worked in a law firm before her marriage.

Avanel volunteered on church mission trips, Meals on Wheels, the Food Pantry, collecting for the March of Dimes and the Cancer Society. She knitted hats and blankets for babies in the neonatal unit.

As a member of the United Methodist Church, she was named woman of the year and held many leadership positions in her circle. For many years, she was the president of the Mental Health Association of Mercer County.

Avanel was an avid reader, a member of the Historical Society and Audubon Society.

Her most important and proudest accomplishment was to model and instill the power of prayer in her children. She always taught them the meaning of unconditional love.

Along with her husband, she spent many hours attending her children's, grandchildren's and great- grandchildren's sporting events and activities. She was always their No. 1 fan.

Don and Avanel created a family based on love, compassion and strength. With every union and birth, her family grew with her as the foundation.

Avanel is survived by nine children, Bradley (Teresa) Hennon, Dr. Sandra Hennon (Dennis Pack), Cindy (Ed) Flick, Debbie (Bruce) Denniston, Scott Hennon, Bonnie (Ron) Gilkey, Amy (Tom) Howard, David (Susie) Hennon and Tracie (Tom) Nicholudis; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
