John “Jack” William Leitem Jr.

John “Jack” William Leitem Jr., 84, passed away peacefully Friday surrounded by his loving family in the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

He was born Dec. 3, 1934, in Butler, and was the son of the late John W. Leitem Sr. and the late Genevieve A. Brandt Leitem.

Jack worked the Marburger Farm Dairy in Evans City for many years and was a past union president for Local 6189 Steel Workers. He later worked at International Staple Co. in East Butler as a die repairman for over 33 years until his retirement.

He enjoyed fixing things, researching on the Internet, knitting and crocheting, and had made many beautiful afghans for his family and donated many more to churches and organizations to help them raise money.

Jack also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jack enjoyed attending church functions with his wife, visiting with his children and their wives, and playing, talking to and teaching his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Donna (DiCicco), whom he married in 1976; a daughter, Patricia (Ron) Mitchell of Round Mountain, Nev.; three sons, Brad (Kerry) Leitem of Justin, Texas, John (Yvonne) Leitem of East Brady, and Robert (Kari) Leitem of Slippery Rock; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hilda (Harvey) Melchert of Plum Borough, Helen (Thomas) Covert and Rose (Thomas) Steighner of Chicora; a brother, Francis (Hope) Leitem; a sister-in-law, Nancy Leitem of Butler; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and a sister-in-law, Leo (Virginia) Leitem and David Leitem; and a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine (John) Fallen.

LEITEM — Visitation for John “Jack” William Leitem Jr., who died Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock St., Chicora.A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church, West Sunbury, officiated by the Rev.
