Gloria A. Marks

Gloria A. Marks, 88, of Buffalo Township passed away peacefully on Saturday at West Haven Nursing Home in Apollo.

Gloria was born May 19, 1930, in New Kensington, a daughter of the late Evelyn (Hemer) and John Armitage.

She was the widow of Charles H. Marks Jr., who passed in 2004.

Gloria was a 1948 graduate of New Kensington High School and a 1951 graduate of Allegheny General School of Nursing. In 1967, she received her bachelor's degree in education from IUP and in 1970, she received her master's degree in counselor education from IUP.

Gloria was employed as the school nurse at Freeport School District for 28 years, retiring in 1993.

Before her employment with the high school, Gloria had worked as an RN with AVH, AGH, ACMH, Citizens Hospital and Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, while her husband was in the service.

Gloria was a long time member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Sarver. She had been a past elder, organist and choir director at her church.

She was a life member of the PSEA and a past president of the PTO at Buffalo Elementary in Sarver.

She enjoyed playing piano, going camping with her husband and spending time with her family.

Gloria is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, the Rev. Mary Marks-King and the Rev. William King of Leechburg; her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Charles H. and Lisa Marie Marks III of Gettysburg; her grandchildren, Timothy and Emily King, Gloria and Geoffrey Stuber, Chelsea Marks and Charles H. Marks IV; her two great-grandchildren, Caden and Jocelyn King; and her dear cousin, Audrey Geiger Smith.

MARKS — Family and friends of Gloria A. Marks, who died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Gloria's son-in-law, the Rev.
