Inmate charged in Butler County Prison drug case

An inmate was charged with having six stamp bags of suspected heroin last month in the Butler County Prison.

The defendant, Joshua K. Minehart, 41, of Butler, had been booked into the prison Dec. 27 after state police arrested him on a constable warrant and allegedly found him with drug paraphernalia.

On Dec. 28, a county sheriff's deputy found a bag containing suspected drugs on the floor of the prison sally port, according to court document. Authorities reviewed the surveillance video that showed the defendant discarding the bag on the floor while he was being processed.

Prison officers conducted a search of his cell but found nothing.

While being searched in the shower area, however, Minehart was seen dropping something onto the floor.

“This object was found to be white stamp bags bound in a black rubber band,'” documents said. “Upon closer inspection there were six plain white stamp bags containing suspected heroin and two torn/used white stamp bags.”

Minehart is charged with possession of a controlled substance by an inmate, a felony.
