Tow trucks free pickup stuck in frozen pond
SUMMIT TWP — Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a reported vehicle into a pond Sunday morning, only to find a truck and no people around.
The call, to a pond on Bonniebrook Road owned by Summit Academy, came in around 9 a.m.
After searching the area, state police got in touch with the truck's owner, Mike Barber of Summit Township, who told them he had left the truck there after getting it stuck at about 1 a.m.
Barber said Sunday morning that he and a couple friends parked in the lot and were going to walk over to the pavilion on the other side of the pond, when he pulled too far forward and the front wheels of his GMC Sierra broke through the ice.
No one was injured, but he was unable to move the truck and decided to come back in the morning, not counting on a passerby seeing the truck and calling 911.
After about two hours Sunday morning, two tow trucks from Sarver Automotive managed to get the vehicle free.
State police said he faces a traffic citation, and a hefty tow bill, for the incident.
