Peter Anthony Leo, RPh
Peter Anthony Leo, RPh, 83, of Butler passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Bradford, a son of the late Patsy Leo and the late Ida Storey Leo, later moving to Sharon, Pa.
He attended Sharon High School, where he was a featured trumpeter in the band, and also performed with his own band. An avid fan of jazz music, he later passed down his appreciation of music to his children and grandchildren.
Following high school graduation, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he was an active member and president of Sigma Pi Fraternity. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh College of Pharmacy, earning a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Degree in 1957.
A highly respected pharmacist, Peter was well known in the Butler community as a pharmacist and owner of Butler Family Drug Stores. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association until his retirement in 1998.
He was a member of the Hereditary Order of the Crown of Charlemagne lineage society, past member of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, past member and president of the Gatewood Homeowners Association, member of the University of Pittsburgh Alumni Association, member of Sigma Pi Fraternity, served on the St. Paul Church Parish Council and was a longtime member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Peter enjoyed military history, reading, jazz music, gardening and was an avid sports enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Montgomery Leo, whom he married Nov. 27, 1957, at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past Monday.
Peter is also survived by four children, Sharon Leo Clouse and her husband, Dr. Richard Clouse, of Glasgow, Ky., Pamela Leo Zelinka and her husband, Frank “Bud” Zelinka, of Butler, Stacey Leo Panei and her husband, Vernon Panei, of Hollywood, Md., and Peter “Monty” Montgomery Leo of Indian Head, Md.; and one brother, Samuel Leo of Sharon; and his eight grandchildren, Dr. Margaret “Maggie” Clouse Deibel and her husband, Dr. Eduard Deibel, Dr. Meredith Clouse, V. Nicholas Panei, Mallory Clouse, Anthony Panei, Mitchell Clouse, Susanne Panei and Cameron Zelinka.
LEO — Friends of Peter Anthony Leo, RPh, who died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church with the Rev.
