Erie, Pa., residents on East 24th Street dig out on Tuesday after a record two-day snowfall. The National Weather Service office in Cleveland says the storm brought 34 inches on Christmas Day, a new all-time daily snowfall record for Erie.

Three Butler County residents are part of 21 Pennsylvania National Guard troops that were put on state active duty for the snow emergency in Erie.

Those county natives are Spc. Corey Chuba, Pfc. Brenden Goughler and Pfc. Shane McGregor, all with the 107th Field Artillery Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, according to Sgt. Zane Craig, spokesman for the National Guard.

Governor Tom Wolf announced Tuesday that the troops had been put on active duty in northwestern Pennsylvania after a record amount of snow fell across the area over the last several days.

Craig said those members are “providing support to civilian emergency services and law enforcement by conducting safety and wellness checks, assisting stranded motorists, and transporting essential emergency services personnel in ten all-terrain military vehicles.”
