Police seek information on Christmas Eve wreck

O'HARA TWP, Allegheny County — Butler County motorists who may have been traveling on Route 28 on Christmas Eve and witnessed a crash in which two young boys were ejected from a vehicle are asked to call Kittanning State Police.

Troopers say Lashelle E. Gibson, 41, of Pittsburgh, was traveling south on Route 28 near the R.I.D.C. Park off exit 10 when she took a curve too wide in an attempt to pass another car on the berm while speeding.

Gibson negotiated the turn too wide and struck the highway's center barrier, causing the vehicle to spin out of control. Her two boys, aged 8 and 9, were unrestrained in the cargo area of the vehicle.

One older child was ejected and landed about 30 feet from the vehicle and was nearly run over by other traffic nearby.

The other child was thrown against the rear window, which shattered upon impact with the boy's body.

The boy who was ejected was somehow not injured and his brother sustained only a minor facial injury. They boys were transported to UPMC Childrens Hospital in Pittsburgh for evaluation.
