Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver of a vehicle that struck a woman in downtown Butler and then sped off.


Sgt. Chad Rensel said on Saturday that the 44-year-old woman was struck just after 7 p.m. Friday near the Rite-Aid pharmacy on Main Street.


The woman was hit as she crossed East Cunningham Street. She sustained broken ribs and a broken pelvis and was transferred to a Pittsburgh trauma center after the incident, Rensel said.
 He said the vehicle involved was described as an older, dark red SUV that was possibly a GMC.


Witnesses at the scene said a young white male drove the vehicle and had a white female as a passenger.


Rensel said police are reviewing security video, but would like to talk to anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run.
