George Edward Barto, 90, of Butler died Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

He was born April 11, 1927, in Butler, to the late Clarence Barto and Loreene Williams Barto.

Mr. Barto worked as a railroad yard master for the Bessemer Railroad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he was a carpenter's mate third class serving in the Philippines during World War II. Mr. Barto was a life member of VFW Post 249 Butler and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He is survived by two sons, Les Barto and his wife, Linda, of Chicora, and Alan Barto and his wife, Debbie, of Kempner, Texas; one daughter, Wendy DeFrancisis and her husband, Mike, of Butler; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Barto, whom he married Nov. 2, 1946, and who died Nov. 7, 1999; and also by 10 brothers and sisters.

BARTO — Friends of George Edward Barto, who died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Nuerge, chaplain at Concordia Lutheran Ministries at Cabot, officiating. Burial will take place at Butler County Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
