JEFFERSON TWP — The head of a local woman's trophy buck disappeared Monday morning from a deer processor.

Abby Hiles, 19, of Karns City, brought the 12-point buck she shot on opening day to Schnur's Custom Meat Market. She had planned to mount the head, but someone accidentally or intentionally removed and took it.

Hiles has been hunting for seven years, mostly during archery season. But this year she picked up a rifle and bagged a trophy animal.

“This was the first buck I took with a rifle,” she said. “It was a pretty exciting morning.”

Hiles said her boyfriend Josh McGinley called the Pennsylvania Game Commission Tuesday morning, hoping to report the incident. They are not planning to report the incident to the police.

She said the premature removal of the head will cost her a cape mount, but she still would like the head back.

“They destroyed the possibility of having the cape mount,” she said. “All I want is (the head) back. No questions. No confrontations.”
