Glenn Evans Cooper
Glenn Evans Cooper, 89, was a permanent resident of St. Cloud, Fla. He passed away at his Slippery Rock summer residence on Wednesday.
Glenn was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Slippery Rock to Harry Wilson Cooper and Marinda Julia (Wimer) Cooper.
While working full-time at his father's company, H.W. Cooper in Slippery Rock, Glenn attended and later graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1946. In his youth, he intermittently attended St. Cloud High School and Slippery Rock High School, as the family spent a great deal of time in both communities.
Glenn married Ruth Irene Hesselgesser on Dec. 25, 1950.
With his brother, Grady, they became part of H.W. Cooper and Sons, and later formed what became known as Cooper Brothers. Their company provided building supplies, supplying construction needs in the greater community.
Glenn was a member of Grove City Lodge 603 F&AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of New Castle, Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh, American Legion Post 88 of St. Cloud, Fla., and the Stanley Snyder VFW Post 7465 of Volant.
Glenn enjoyed boating and fishing, He was a skilled pilot, having owned and operated his own plane for more than 30 years. He and Ruth enjoyed traveling extensively. Glenn particularly enjoyed traveling to South America with his friends.
Glenn and his wife enjoyed supporting various local community services and contributed to various churches.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews, Karen L. Cooper of St. Cloud, and Renata L. Hall of Slippery Rock; his nephew, Lilburn B., and wife, Phyllis Cooper, of Slippery Rock; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Grady.
COOPER — The family of Glenn Evans Cooper, who died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, also at the funeral home. Interment will be at Slippery Rock Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to the Slippery Rock Community Library, P.O.
