Harry “Bulldog” Andrew Allison

Harry “Bulldog” Andrew Allison

Harry “Bulldog” Andrew Allison, 90, passed away Sunday at Butler Hospital.

He was born Friday, Feb. 4, 1927, in Slippery Rock Township to Andrew Floyd and Clara Minerva (Pizor) Allison.

He attended The Crocker School, a one-room school house in Slippery Rock Township now the restored and currently being operated as the Birdwatcher Store.

In 1946, Harry was drafted into the Army Air Corp. He served honorably during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Pvt. Allison was promoted to PFC as a truck driver with the 1949 Engineer, Aviation, Utilities C.O. He was stationed on the island of Okinawa, Japan. He operated weapons carriers, jeeps, and 1½-ton to 4-ton trucks. He transported military personnel, equipment and materials, and was responsible for maintaining the vehicles he operated. Harry was proud of his service to his country, but not too fond of the transport ship to (16 days) and from (15 days) Okinawa.

After his separation from the military, Harry married Georgia Maxine Dull in April of 1947. They were married for 67 years until her passing Feb. 9, 2015.

Harry drove truck for several companies through his working career, retiring from W.E. Wike Trucking in Venango County, Pa.

He was a member of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church. He was a tinkerer, whether in his garage working on his lawn mowers, cars, trucks, or performing small tasks around the house that he and Maxine shared. Harry could be seen mowing the grass on his hill in “Allisonville,” throughout the spring, summer and fall. He very much enjoyed visits with family, and friends, and watching NASCAR races and Steelers games.

Harry will be sadly missed by his family.
