Donald J. Craig

Donald J. Craig, 85, of Boyers passed away Friday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Craig was born Sept. 10, 1932, near Murrinsville, the son of the late John M. Craig and Irene A. Bell Craig. He attended Grove City High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era.

Mr. Craig married Carol A. “Kit” Lynch on Oct. 6, 1956. They were married 51 years and inseparable, until Kit passed away in November 2007.

Mr. Craig worked on the maintenance staff at Grove City College, supervising the facility's power plant operation. He retired from Grove City College in 1995 after 32 years of service.

Mr. Craig was a lifetime member of the Boyers United Methodist Church. He was a church officer and sometime handyman and bookkeeper for the church. He and his wife were active in the church and the community, including working with the Meals on Wheels program and the church-based thrift store.

Mr. Craig was a member and former past master of the F&AM Lodge 603 of Grove City and was a member of American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury. He served for many years on the Moniteau Ceremonial Squad.

Mr. Craig loved animals, especially cats and dogs, enjoyed golfing and became an avid and accomplished woodworker and furniture builder, until his eyesight began to fail him. Mr. Craig was universally loved and respected as a kind man who served his community and lent a hand wherever needed.

Mr. Craig is survived by his son, Timothy D. Craig and his wife, Brenda, of Suffolk, Va.; his older sister, Erla Ferringer of Franklin; and his brothers, Alfred “Lanny” Craig and his wife, Vera, of Grove City and Leslie “Ike” Craig and his wife, Joyce, of New Castle.

He also is survived by his sister-in-law, Naomi Craig of Butler; his brother-in-law, David Lynch and his wife, Velma, of Grove City.

Mr. Craig has a large extended family with many nieces and nephews who also survive.

Mr. Craig is preceded in death by his wife, Kit; his brothers, William and Robert Craig; his sister, Lizzie Gladd; his brothers-in-law, LeRoy Ferringer, Clair Gladd and Dean Bollinger; and his sisters-in-law, Carol and Gwendolyn Craig and Opeal Bollinger.

CRAIG — The family of Donald J. Craig, who died Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville.Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Schmitt, pastor of Boyers United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will take place at the Clintonville Methodist Cemetery.The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be sent to Boyers United Methodist Church.Friends can email condolences by visiting www.mckinleyfuneralhome.net.
