Song serves dual roles
EMLENTON — A local singer has been busy since his time in the national spotlight and has come out with a new single serving a special purpose.
Isaac Cole, a 17-year-old country singer who competed on last season's “American Idol” TV show, released “Everyday Livin,'” which he co-wrote in March with three other singer-songwriters in Nashville, Tenn.
Cole has pledged that $1 from each purchase of the song to the Hauser Children Fund. The fund helps support Samantha and Dominick Hauser, both students at Karns City Junior-Senior High School, who lost their mother in 2015 and their father in May, both due to cancer.
Cole said he doesn't know what it's like to lose a parent, but he lost his grandmother to cancer and sympathizes with the Hausers.
“I don't have millions of dollars to give them,” he said. “The biggest thing I have is my music.”
Cole's mother, Cheryl McNanny, said she has already seen how the song has helped direct people toward the cause.
“It already has caused people to notice and donate to Hauser Children Fund on top of the sales,” she said.
Cole said the song's proceeds will also help him work toward his next project, a full album. He said he has been writing songs all summer and has an album's worth of material ready to record. But the studio can be expensive.
“Most people don't realize that it can easily cost $1,000 to record one song,” he said.
Cole said the album would include the new single too, which took the four writers about an hour and a half to put together.
“After I got the melody together, everything just started flowing,” he said.
Cole said he drew inspiration for the song from summertime activities and appreciation for the good moments in life.
“It's about appreciating the smaller things in life and simply slowing down and enjoying things,” he said.
Cole said he hopes people will see the duality in helping both the Hauser children and him.
