Man sentenced to state prison in theft case
A Butler man charged with breaking into a vacant home in Butler was sentenced to state prison in Butler County Court on Thursday.
Robert Bacote Jr., 52, was sentenced to 12 to 36 months in state prison, with 228 days time served credit. He was also ordered to pay court costs by Judge William Shaffer.
He continues to be held on a state parole detainer.
Bacote pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft from a motor vehicle on Oct. 3, after being initially charged with felony counts of burglary and trespass, and misdemeanor counts of theft from a vehicle and resisting arrest after an incident on March 20.
Butler City police said Bacote broke into a vacant home on Wagner Avenue.
A 911 call reporting a suspicious man first seen outside the house and then in the basement, sent police there to investigate. Officers spotted Bacote, who then took off running.
After a brief foot chase, Bacote was arrested after an office displayed a Taser.
While at the home, officers found a side window screen that had been pulled out and bent. Bacote also stole a jack and jack stands from a pickup truck that was parked near the home.
