A Butler businessman is offering a $500 reward to help solve a burglary that hit close to home.

Clair Boring, owner of Clair Boring Painting and Services, said someone Thursday evening or Friday morning broke into his business on Route 8 south in Butler.

The unknown suspect or suspects made off with money and more, namely the key component that operates the security system.

“They took the main drive box,” Boring said.

Butler police are investigating but a report was not immediately available Friday.

Boring said a small amount of money was taken from his secretary's office. A larger amount of currency was stolen from his office.

Both offices were ransacked but besides the money and security equipment, valued at $800, nothing else appeared to have been taken from the two-story building.

The crime, he said, occurred between 5 p.m. Thursday — closing time for the business — and about 8 a.m. Friday, when Boring returned to open for the day.

He said the reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the burglary and theft. Police can be reached through 911.
