Kenneth L. “Laird” Mortimer

Kenneth L. “Laird” Mortimer, 89, of East Brady passed peacefully from this life Monday at VA Butler Healthcare.

Born in Phillipston on Oct. 5, 1927, he was the son of Russell and Nellie (Painter) Mortimer.

Laird was a life-long resident of the East Brady area.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a lab technician at Fort Knox, Ky.

In his earlier years, Laird operated a television repair shop in Rimersburg. He then worked as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in East Brady for 30 years.

Laird was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed football.

He was a member of the East Brady United Methodist Church where he served as church treasurer for 35 years. He also served as an usher and was on various other church committees.

On May 7, 1977, Laird married the former Dorothy King Hillwig, who survives. He also is survived by one granddaughter, Darcy Neidrick and her husband, Bill, of Chicora; two grandsons, Nathan Hillwig of East Brady and Bart Hillwig and his wife, Traci, of Elizabeth, Pa.; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Hillwig of East Brady; one sister, Louise Smith of Chicora; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Cindy Baughman; one stepson, Art Hillwig; and two brothers.

MORTIMER — A memorial service for Kenneth L. “Laird” Mortimer, who died Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the East Brady United Methodist Church with the Rev.
