Paul Andrew Mellish
Paul Andrew Mellish, 102, of East Brady, died Monday at Sugarcreek Rest.
He was born Oct. 16, 1914, in Sugarcreek Township to the late Joseph and Annie (Possage) Mellish.
He was a devoted husband to Flora (McClure) Mellish for 79 years. They lived all of their lives in Sugarcreek Township and had three children, Barbara (Ronald) Jack of Cowansville, Paula (Alan) Claypoole of Meadville and David (Marge) Mellish of West Virginia.
Their family also consists of eight grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, many great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mellish was the last surviving member of his immediate family, preceded in death by his parents, 12 brothers, one sister and one great-great granddaughter.
He was employed in several coal mines over 47 years and retired from Fawn Coal Company as an electrical inspector. He was also a well-known electrician over a wide area of Armstrong and Butler counties.
In his earlier days, he often got paid with vegetables. He never charged churches that he wired. He was the last living Charter Member of Sugarcreek Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he worked faithfully for almost 70 years.
Mr. Mellish was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Sugarcreek Parish, now Bradys Bend Parish.
MELLISH — Friends of Paul Andrew Mellish, who died Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 832 East Brady Road, Cowansville.
An additional viewing will be held from 10 until 11:30 a.m., Friday at the funeral home, followed by the Funeral Liturgy at noon at St. Patrick’s Church in Bradys Bend with Father John M. Butler, officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Paul’s memory to Sugarcreek Township Volunteer Fire Department or St. Patrick’s Church.
