Charles “Chuck” R. Thompson

Charles “Chuck” R. Thompson, 92, of Butler passed away Sunday at VNA Inpatient Hospice following a struggle with heart disease with his niece Sandy by his side.

He was born Feb. 27, 1925, in Butler, the son of the late Ralph S. and Christina (Eisenporn) Thompson.

Chuck graduated from Butler High School. He retired from Dravo as an inspector.

He was a wounded veteran receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and many other medals during World War II.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and Thorn Creek United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and loved fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his sons, Ronald Thompson of Glenshaw and Douglas Thompson of Butler; a niece, Sandy Gallagher and her children, Joey (Joanna) Gallagher and Tammy Gallagher and her fiance Dan Fierst; two nephews, Terry (Dee) Bachman and family and Daryl (Robin) Bachman and family; and a nephew-in-law, Michael (Patty) Selfridge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Thompson, who he married Aug. 6, 1947, and who died Nov. 12, 2006; and his sister, Irma “Sis” (Thompson) Bachman.

THOMPSON — Friends of Charles “Chuck” R. Thompson, who died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with the Rev. Mary Jo Gould of Thorn Creek United Methodist Church.Entombment will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates with military honors at tehcemetery.Contributions may be made to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.
