Michael Joseph Kovac
Michael Joseph Kovac, 72, of Prospect passed away early Monday morning at UPMC Shadyside Hospital with his loving family by his side. He will be remembered as a courageous three-year survivor of pancreatic cancer, where he kept a positive outlook on life and family.
Born Dec. 1, 1944, in Astoria, N.Y., he was the son of the late Michael and Consuela Tedesco Kovac.
He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Prospect.
He retired as a physicist from AGR International in Butler after 40 years of service.
Michael was a member of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and a member of the Our Clubhouse, a cancer support organization in Pittsburgh.
Mike enjoyed being with his family, especially the beach vacations. He loved motorcycle riding, reading, discussing politics, fishing, music and traveling worldwide for both work and pleasure.
He is survived by his wife, Georgeann “Gigi” Flaccavento Kovac, whom he married June 20, 1970; his children, Stephen M. (Benjamin) Kovac of Saxonburg, David A. (Tiffany) Kovac of Slippery Rock and Anna R. Kovac of Prospect; two granddaughters, Taylor and Peyton Kovac; his siblings, George (Lauren) Kovac of Zionsville, Ind., and John (Carolyn) Kovac of Franklin Square, N.Y.; his sister-in-law, Carol Kovac of Guntersville, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Victor.
KOVAC — Visitation for Michael Joseph Kovac, who died Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main St., Prospect. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 143 Church St., Prospect, with the Rev. Gary Brown, his church pastor, officiating.
