Gerald R. Lenavitt

Gerald R. Lenavitt, 86, of East Franklin Township passed away peacefully Saturday at Allegheny General Hospital.

Jerry was born Nov. 6, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio. He was the son of the late Helen Singleton Lenavitt and David Lenavitt. He was the widower of Catherine M. Claypoole Lenavitt, who died in 2011.

Jerry served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War, where he was a helicopter co-pilot. After the war, Jerry spent 24 years in the Army working in U.S. Security Agencies. He retired in 1973 with the rank of major. After his service in the Army, he worked as an electronics engineer at Leybold Inficon in Syracuse, N.Y., for 13 years, retiring in 1995.

Jerry was a member of the Butler County Spinners and Weavers Guild. He was also a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying his single- engine twin boom plane out of McVille Airport. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, snow skiing, riding his scooters and collecting model railroad trains. He was an active member of the Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church in Freeport.

Gerald is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Tony Carino of Gilpin Township; and his granddaughter, Heather Carino of Stuttgart, Germany.

He is preceded in death by his two brothers and one sister-in-law, James V. Lenavitt, who was killed in World War II when his B-52 was shot down, and Jack and Carrie Grace “Kit” Lenavitt.

LENAVITT — Family and friends of Gerald R. Lenavitt, who died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.Public visitation will continue at the Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church in Freeport from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Davis officiating. Burial will be held at the Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthington, Pa.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, P.O.
