LOS ANGELES — Carly Simon, Scarlett Johansson and Sean Combs are among the celebrities whose family histories are explored on PBS’ “Finding Your Roots.”

The series returns Tuesday for its fourth season with host Henry Louis Gates Jr.

The prominent Harvard professor once again lures the famous and celebrated to the series, which shares their ancestry as uncovered by research and science.

Simon wanted to find out if her grandmother really was the offspring of a king of Spain, but Gates said they found the singer’s family had different roots, in Africa.

The opening episode features Larry David and politician Bernie Sanders, who were found to be related.
