Carl Thompson Jr.

Carl Thompson Jr.

Carl Thompson Jr., 85, of Boyers, passed away early Thursday morning at his residence of natural causes.

He was born March 9, 1932, in Venango Township. He was the son of the late Carl and Ethel (McFadden) Thompson.

Carl was a hard working man who began a career in the coal industry right out of school. He was a drilling and blasting technician working with Tri-County Fuel, Lucas Coal and Hindman Mining. Later in his life he began a career as a timber cutter, the vocation from which he retired.

He was very proud of the fact that he was on the job clearing the forest and trees for the entire lot where the Clearview Mall now resides in Butler. He was also very proud that with no experience, only determination, he built his home from the ground up by hand, clearing the trees with an ax and digging the basement by hand. He did it all from the foundation to the shingles on the roof.

He was Methodist by faith and attended the Methodist Church in Argentine and later attended the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Chicora.

Carl was married to the late Margaret (Bowser) Thompson, who preceded him in death in 2000.

He his survived by four daughters, Carol Hankey, of Punxsutawney, Laura Marie McGinnis, of Ohio, Kimberly Ann (Andrew) Fierst, of Ohio, and Tammy (Dale) McLaughlin, of Parker; three sons, John (Lynn) Thompson, of Boyers, Bill Thompson, of Foxburg, and Rod (Lori) Thompson, of Eau Claire; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Carl is also survived by a sister, Winona “Tootie” Hutchinson, of Butler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Thompson; and a sister, Grace Fair.
