Gerard A. “Jerry” Neff
Gerard A. “Jerry” Neff, 74, of Chicora passed away Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in Butler on Feb. 5, 1943, the son of the late Herman and Mary Agnes Angert Neff.
He married Donna Ritzert Neff on Sept. 5, 1970; she died Feb. 17, 2015. He was a 1961 graduate of Butler High School, the first class to graduate from the new high school.
He was a welder at Pullman Standard from 1963 to 1982. He then worked at CLIECO from 1985 until retiring in 2005.
Gerard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966.
He worked with oil, gas and water. He enjoyed old cars, country music, woodworking and being with his family.
Gerard was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in North Oakland, Chicora VFW and the Chicora American Legion.
Surviving are his daughter, Julie and James Fitzpatrick of Butler; his granddaughter, Makensie Fitzpatrick; his grandsons, Conner and Robert Fitzpatrick; his sister, Catherine and Phillip Graham of Greensburg; his brothers, Herman and Bridgett Neff, Benjamin Neff, and Patrick and Jean Neff, all of Chicora.
Also surviving are his brother, Raymond and Jeannie Neff of Butler; and several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents; and five brothers, James, Joseph, Wendelin, Andrew and Thomas.
NEFF — Friends of Gerard A. “Jerry” Neff, who died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E.
