Pittsburgh man arrested for Rt. 8 DUI

A Pittsburgh man was arrested for drunken driving on Sept. 3 after Penn Township police got a call for a reckless driver on Route 8 near Conley Resort. The driver's minivan, the caller reported, had struck a guardrail.

Police later stopped Peter F. Moran, 56, after they saw his van weaving on Route 8 near Sandy Hill Road. The van had the same license plate number as the one given by the caller, court documents said. It also had fresh damage on its passenger side and the right front tire was flat.

The defendant appeared to be impaired, and he subsequently failed field sobriety tests.

The officer placed him back in the patrol car to be taken to the police station for processing, but Moran unbuckled his seat belt and tried to open the door to get out, documents said.

At the station, he allegedly continued to act up and damaged a police leather transport belt.

A full report will appear in the Butler Eagle.
