Welcome center opens doors
MARION TWP — Iron Mountain opened the doors of its Guardian Gateway facility, a new 11,600-square-foot customer welcome center at its underground campus on Tuesday.
The $4.5 million facility was constructed to enhance the location's physical security capabilities and security of customers' shipments to the campus, which is located in a former limestone mine 220 feet underground.
Iron Mountain, an international business for storing and protecting information and data, marked the opening of the center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and guided tour. Construction on the facility began late last year.
The new facility has conference rooms, office space, a lounge and kitchen and extended parking along with a 5,600-square-foot shipping and receiving area adjacent to the welcome center.
Guests at the event included Butler County Commissioners Kevin Boozel, Kim Geyer and Leslie Osche, state Sen. Scott Hutchinson, R-21st, state Rep. Tedd Nesbit, R-8th, and U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-3rd.
Kelly said Iron Mountain's investment in the facility represents the company's continued interest in the Butler County community.
“By allowing us to be here today to take a look at the investment and the faith that you have in the future, the confidence you have in the work force here and the change and difference it makes in the local economy is, to me, a real vote of confidence,” he said.
Osche added that the opening of the facility along with the opening of VA Butler Healthcare's new Abie Abraham VA Clinic in Center Township earlier Tuesday was a show of success in the development of Butler County.
“Today is truly a blessed and exciting day for this county,” she said. “This investment being made here speaks volumes about the people in this area and the work ethic that we certainly have here in Western Pennsylvania and in Butler County especially.”
This new space is the third phase of a five-phase project that started in 2013 to increase the data center presence.
Iron Mountain employs more than 1,500 people, including 250 Iron Mountain employees at the facility. The company also has campuses in Collegeville and Royersford, both boroughs in Montgomery County, with more than 1,110 employees throughout the state.
The company has 1,350 facilities in 45 countries.
