Hurdle receiving 4-year extension
PITTSBURGH — Clint Hurdle has reportedly signed a four-year extension to remain as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The news was first reported Monday by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, through an anonymous source.
Hurdle is 574-534 in seven seasons as the Pirates manager, including three successive National League playoff appearances from 2013-15. He was not signed beyond this season, though the Pirates had a club option on him for 2018.
This new contract wipes out that club option and keeps Hurdle under contract with the Bucs through 2021.
General manager Neal Huntington, like Hurdle, is not under contract beyond this season. The Pirates hold a club option on Huntington for 2018 as well, but no new deal has been reported.
The Pirates have not officially confirmed nor released any news about the Hurdle extension.
