Members of the public interested in donating household items to help out the people of Wilmington, Texas, can do so at several locations around Butler County this week.

Buddy Hindman of Butler Township, owner of Hindman Trucking, is planning to send a 53-foot tractor-trailer to the people of Wilmington, a town of about 2,000 people near Houston that has been hit by flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

Items will be collected Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., and Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Hindman's building at 121 Hindman Lane in Connoquenessing Township, in the rear of the Classic Ink's building.

The Butler Eagle is accepting donations at its office, 114 W. Diamond St. in downtown Butler until 5 p.m. Friday. A group of volunteers is also planning a collection from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday during the Mars football game against South Fayette at the Mars Athletic Complex, 1775 Three Degree Road, Adams Township.

Items that are needed in Texas include canned or nonperishable food, dog and cat food, children's clothes and shoes, backpacks and school supplies, diapers, baby food, especially jars, formula, tarps, water or water purification tablets, kitchen utensils, napkins, plastic silverware, trash bags, cleaning supplies, paper towels, toilet paper, batteries and flashlights.

Hindman said pickups of donations are possible for churches, companies or groups that have a large collections of items.

Grace Community Church, 9160 Marshall Road in Cranberry Township, is collecting donations from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon Friday, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The church is sending its own truck to help victims of the hurricane. They are looking for donations of baby formula, diapers, wipes, non-perishable food and water.
