Chicora man sentenced to fines for ATV police chase
A Chicora man charged after an all-terrain vehicle police chase was sentenced to fines in Butler County Court on Thursday.
William J. Simmons III, 19, was sentenced to $200 in fines by county Judge William Shaffer Tuesday, after previously having been found guilty of summary driving an ATV on a street and unsafe driving on an ATV during a non-jury trial.
He was charged after an incident on Aug. 21, 2016, on Route 268. A Pennsylvania State Police trooper on routine patrol saw two ATVs heading in the opposite direction that were not equipped to be on the road.
He turned around and attempted to initiate a traffic stop at the intersection with Fairmont Road, but the vehicles continued along Route 268 for five to seven miles through Chicora before pulling onto a gated dirt road and into the woods, ending the chase.
A full report will appear in the Butler Eagle.
