Memorial golf outing
HARMONY — The first Paul Bernot Memorial Foundation golf outing takes place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Strawberry Ridge Golf Course.
Bernot, an avid athlete all his life, was stricken by advanced colorectal cancer at age 30. He fought the disease as he battled competition on the field and on the ice for 16 months through chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries.
Proceeds from the scramble golf tourney and accompanying silent auction will benefit the foundation, designed to help other athletes like Paul Bernot to remain engaged in athletics despite a cancer diagnosis.
The silent auction will feature an Evgeni Malkin signed jersey, an autographed photo of Antonio Brown and tickets to a Pirates game.
