John S. Wasylyk

John S. Wasylyk, 75, of Butler passed away Tuesday at his home.

He was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Passaic, N.J., to the late Stanley Wasylyk and the late Emma Decker Wasylyk.

John attended Rutgers University, where he received his bachelor's degree and Ph.D. He went on to work for American Glass Research as a ceramic scientist and engineer before leaving in 1991 to become an independent glass consultant. John loved reading, gardening, cooking, swimming and golfing at Butler Country Club, and he had a passion for all animals, especially his Westie, Gus.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Deborah Smith Wasylyk, whom he married Nov. 8, 1969; two daughters Wendy W. Laconi and her husband, Scott, of Butler and Rebecca W. Fernandez and her husband, Matthew, of Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren, Camden and Carson Laconi of Butler, and Tess, Lily, and Noah Fernandez of Vancouver, Wash.; one brother, Stanley Wasylyk and his wife, Sally, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and one sister, Elaine Kollmeyer Nixon of Canada.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

WASYLYK — Friends of John S. Wasylyk, who died Tuesday, July 11, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St. Butler.A memorial service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. with Father Harry R.
