Laura Virginia Bishop
Laura Virginia Bishop, 89, of Chicora, passed away Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
She was born Aug. 24, 1927, in Donegal Township, to the late James Dunlap and the late Ruby Margaret Johns Dunlap.
Virginia worked at Ubers Clothing Store and E.F. Hayes & Sons of Chicora and retired in 1991 as a manager from Penn Drake Credit Union.
She was a volunteer for 22 years with the VA Butler Healthcare in Butler as well as Toys for Tots. Virginia and her husband, Arthur, delivered Meals on Wheels for many years in the Chicora area.
Virginia participated in Family Bible Class and was a member at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was in the 6th Marine Division Women's Guild.
Virginia loved cooking and baking, especially her homemade doughnuts. She enjoyed family travels and attendance at the 6th Marine Division reunions.
Virginia is survived by her three daughters, Linda Trainer-Miller and her husband Gene of Las Cruces, N.M., Pamela Fennell and her husband Doug of Chicora and Beth McConnell and her husband Matt of Dover, N.J.; five grandchildren, Gerald Trainer and his wife Jenny of Cedar Crest, N.M., Meredith Fennell Deal and her husband Larry of Butler, Megan Moore and her husband Carl of Salisbury, N.C., Alex McConnell of Camp Lejune, N.C., and Madyson McConnell of Dover, N.J.; five great-grandchildren, Eric Trainer, Rhyan Deal, Maddox Moore, Hayden Deal and Mavrick Moore; one sister, Dorothy Bly and her husband Dean of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur William Bishop Jr., whom she married Aug. 30, 1947, and who died July 9, 2010; and two brothers, Melvin Dunlap and James Dunlap.
BISHOP — Friends of Laura Virginia Bishop, who died Saturday, June 24, 2017, will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Additional viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.Funeral services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
