Norman E. Gottschalk Jr.

Norman E. Gottschalk Jr., 73, of O'Hara Township died Sunday surrounded by his family after suffering unexpected complications from surgery.

The retired chief executive officer of Marmon/Keystone Corp., headquartered in Butler, Gottschalk grew the company from eight locations to 61 locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Gottschalk was at the helm of Marmon/Keystone in 2008 when Warren Buffett purchased 60 percent of the distributor's parent company, Chicago-based Marmon Holdings for $4.5 billion. Gottschalk stepped down from the role in 2014.

Gottschalk served in 2007 as chairman of Metals Service Center Institute, based in Rolling Meadows, Ill., was a past director of the National Association of Steel Pipe Distributors and was named 1999 Service Center Executive of the Year by Metal Center News.

In 2012, Gottschalk was the recipient of Robert Morris University's Heritage Award, which is the Moon Township university's highest award for distinguished achievement that brings honor upon the school.

Norman loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Gottschalk Carb.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Koehler Gottschalk of O'Hara Township; son Norman E. (Melissa) Gottschalk III of Zelienople; son Charles Gottschalk of Shadyside; daughter Lisa Gordon of Sewickley Heights; granddaughter Elizabeth (Jesse) Coslov of Fox Chapel; grandson Brett Carb of O'Hara Township; granddaughter Abby (David) Verret of Houston; grandson David Gordon of Pittsburgh; granddaughter Ashley Gottschalk and grandson Norman Gottschalk IV, both of Franklin Park; granddaughter Megan Gottschalk of Shadyside; and great-grandson Ari Coslov of Fox Chapel.

He also is survived by his sister, Marlene (Raymond) Lewis of Sharpsburg, and brother, Bernard (Connie) Gottschalk of Wilmington, Del.

GOTTSCHALK — Friends of Norman E. Gottschalk Jr., who died Sunday, June 18, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Bock Funeral Home, 1500 Mount Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, O'Hara Township.
