Francis C. “Charlie” Horstman Jr.

Francis C. “Charlie” Horstman Jr., 70, of Butler passed away Monday at Good Samaritan Hospice Cabot Inpatient Unit at Concordia.

Born June 26, 1946, in Ellwood City, he was a son of the late Francis C. “Frank” Horstman Sr. and June E. Walker Horstman.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Saint Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman.

Charlie was employed as a repairman at Penn Dixie, now known as Armstrong Cement and Supply Company, for 36 years. He was also formerly employed at Pullman Standard.

He was a member of the R.C. Men's Club and the East Butler Fireman's Club.

Charlie loved camping, riding around on his Kubota and hauling gravel with his dump trailer.

He is survived by his daughter, Crystal (Rob) Shuler of Herman; one son, Shawn Horstman of Butler; four sisters, Deborah (Fred) Fritz of Valencia, Susan (Alvin) Zang, Cheryl (Robert) Ray and Shirley (David) Selfridge, all of Herman; two grandchildren, Ryan and Emily Horstman; four step-grandchildren, Samantha, Melanie, Dustin and Danny Shuler; his companion, Joanne Neff; and his dog, Samantha.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carl L. “Pete” Horstman.

HORSTMAN — Friends of Francis C. “Charlie” Horstman, who died Monday, June 19, 2017, will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.Funeral services and burial will be private.The family requests memorial donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice Cabot Inpatient Unit at Concordia, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023.For more information, please visit www.martinfh.net.
