James Frederick “Fred” Mackey

James Frederick “Fred” Mackey, 93, of West Liberty passed away at Grove Manor Nursing Home in Grove City on Monday following an extended illness.

He was born in Euclid on Oct. 27, 1923, to Frank Mackey and Mary Elizabeth Badger Mackey. He married Ina Genevieve Boyd on Sept. 23, 1949.

Fred was a self-employed farmer.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. In World War II, he was awarded the ETO Campaign ribbon with five Bronze Battle Stars and a Good Conduct ribbon. He served in Battles and Campaigns at the Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe, Normandy and Northern France.

Survivors include his wife Ina at the residence; two sisters, Myrtle Shirey of Parker and Anna Mae and husband, Jon Richards of Slippery Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Caroline Cooper; two brothers, Albert and infant brother, David.

MACKEY — Services for James Frederick “Fred” Mackey, who died Monday, June 12, 2017, were private. Burial took place at West Liberty Cemetery, West Liberty, Butler County.Arrangements were handled by Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock.
