A woman who was arrested Sunday night after allegedly assaulting a teenager at a Butler apartment made matters worse when she allegedly struck a police officer.

Stephanie M. O'Malley, 22, of Adams Township is being held in the Butler County Prison on $20,000 bail.

She is charged with felony assault for hitting Butler Township Patrolman Jason Gueck. She's charged with misdemeanor assault for attacking the 16-year-old Allegheny County girl.

Butler police, assisted by township officers, found O'Malley after being called about 11:50 p.m. for a disturbance at the Greenview Apartments. Less than 30 minutes earlier, police had been called to the same apartment for a noise complaint.

During the second stop there, according to court documents, officers heard two people arguing when they got to the door. They knocked but got no answer.

Police eventually forced their way inside and found O'Malley, a 16-year-old girl from Allison Park, and the tenant, 20-year-old Chelsea L. Foy.

The defendant is accused of getting into a fight with the teen during which she pulled the girl's hair, punched her and grabbed her by the throat. A Butler Ambulance Service crew treated the girl for minor injuries at the scene.

“(O'Malley) continued to be belligerent and yell while officers were putting her in handcuffs,” said Butler police Deputy Chief David Adam. That's when she allegedly hit Gueck in the groin area.

But even after she was in custody, police said, she refused to calm down.

“She continued to be belligerent and violent,” Adam said, “and smacked her head off the window (of the police car).”

O'Malley was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, strangulation and resisting arrest.

Police also charged Foy with a disorderly house violation.
