Two die in separate traffic accidents
Police and emergency crews are at the scene of a fatal two-vehicle accident on Route 228 west in Middlesex Township.
The crash about 6:15 a.m. involved a state police car and another vehicle, authorities said. The person killed in the wreck was in the other vehicle.
The crash happened on a sharp curve known as “Ball's Bend.” Butler County Deputy Coroner John Hanovick was called to the scene.
The road remains closed between Park Road and Route 8.
No other information was immediately available.
The crash is the second fatality in Butler County in the past 14 hours.
David W. Aspinall, 57, of Franklin Township died Monday afternoon after he apparently suffered a medical emergency before crashing his vehicle down a steep embankment Monday afternoon on Route 19, state police said.
Aspinall was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident about 4:15 p.m.
Police said Aspinall lost control of his 2001 Jeep Cherokee while traveling south on Route 19, after an unknown medical issue, Hanovick said.
The vehicle crossed over the northbound lane and continued into a wooded area off the road. The Jeep hit two trees before going down an embankment and overturning onto its driver's side.
