High winds, heavy rainfall hit southern part of county

Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit Main Street in Butler Monday afternoon.

Emergency responders were sent into action this afternoon when a thunderstorm rolled through the southern part of the county.

Volunteer firefighters and road crews were dispatched to clear fallen trees and tree branches in multiple locations between 4 and 4:30 p.m.

Some of the areas affected by fallen tree branches, some of which knocked down power lines, included Little Creek Road in Lancaster Township, Franklin Road in Cranberry Township, Crab Run Road in Connoquenessing Township, Stanley Avenue in Butler Township, 1st Street in Evans City and Valencia Road in Forward Township, according to Butler County Emergency Services records.

The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the county that ended at 4:30 p.m.

Several minor power outages were reported in the southwestern part of the county, according to First Energy's website.
