SUMMIT TWP — Two teenagers' escape last week from the Summit Academy reform school was short lived, authorities said.

Troopers on Thursday found the runaways about 2½ miles away, apparently hiding under a tree in back of a house in neighboring Jefferson Township.

Emmanuel Munoz, 19, of Herman was arraigned on a felony charge of escape, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

Police did not identify the other escapee, who is facing charges in Butler County juvenile court.

Troopers were notified about 3:40 p.m. of the two missing teenagers from the school on Herman Road in Summit Township, according to court documents.

About 40 minutes later, police were alerted that the pair was seen in the area of Great Belt Road and Jason Drive in Jefferson Township.

A woman a short time later called 911 to report seeing two people walk through her property at that same intersection. She feared that they had entered her house.

Police checked but determined that no one had gotten into the woman's house.

Troopers eventually found both teens under a pine tree in back of a house on Dreher Road.
